Robert Wright Sr.

Obituary of Robert Lewis Wright Sr.

Robert L. Wright Sr., age 82 years of Pennsauken, passed away suddenly on March 2, 2024.

The life of Robert "Bobby" Wright Sr. began on October 31, 1941 when he was born to the late Harry Wright Sr. and Helen Wright (nee Reed). He was educated in the Delaware school system. He eventually moved to Main Line, PA with his sister Phyllis where an Italian restaurant owner took him under her wing and taught him the skills needed to make a living.

Then Bobby met the love of his life, Patricia and that was a game changer. The two later became husband and wife at the young ages of just 17 and 20 and life mates for over 60 years.

Since he was a husband and father at such a young age, he worked hard to keep food on the table for his growing family. Bobby gained employment at Rice and Holman where he was employed for 18 years. In 1986, he went to work for Pennsauken Public Works where he moved up the ranks and became General Roads Supervisor. His dedication and loyalty resulted in 24 years of employment with the municipality.

Bobby loved life. In his early years, one of his favorite hobbies was to work on and sell classic cars. He enjoyed drag racing with his brothers in Atco and McGuire. He had a joy for traveling and camping with family and friends. Also, spending time with his family at their retirement home in Delaware. Bobby and his wife enjoyed dancing together. On one occasion in Delaware, they danced in a marathon non-stop for hours. He valued family and was always there to lend a hand to those in need. He displayed qualities of humbleness, kindness, love and generosity to all that knew him. He could make anyone's day brighter just by his quick witty humor. Bobby was a lifelong member of the Nanticoke Indian Association.

In his later years, Bobby enjoyed taking rides through town, to Dunkin Donuts and down to the riverfront to watch the boats go by. He loved getting company but you better not come without a Dunkin coffee in your hands! The little things brought him joy.

Bobby leaves to cherish his memories; son Robert L. Wright Jr. (Sonia), daughter Angela E. Cureton (Brian), sisters Eleanor Wright and Gwendolyn Ridgeway-Morris, grandchildren China Cureton and Asia Fugate (Darius), "surrogate” grandchildren Faith Wright-Gilliam and David Daniels, special nieces Antionette Johnson and Tanya Wright, special nephews Jeff Hopkins and Rhys Wright, sister-in-law Ivanette Peterson, Goddaughter Gorgina Johns and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
